Spanish Film Festival
The Spanish Film Festival was screened in Pune on 2nd and 3rd April 2011 at the National Film Archive of India. This festival was organized by Casa de la India under the aegis of Pune Film Foundation and supported by The Embassy of Spain in India. 8 Feature Films and 1 documentary were screened at the 2 day festival. The films were screened from 10.30 am to 8 pm with suitable spacings.
The Spanish Film Festival was held in the auditorium of National Film Archive of India and the venue had a very festive feel about it. The entrance area was decorated with flower petals and the event was inaugurated by lighting the flower bedecked ceremonial lamp by the visiting Spanish Delegation and Trustees of Pune Film Foundation. The visiting delegates were Ms. Elena Anaya (Actress, Hierro), Ms. Lola Dueñas (Actress, Yo También), Ms. Marta Etura (Actress, Celda 211), Mr. Edmon Roch (Director/Producer - Garbo), Ms. Beatriz de la Gándara (Film Producer) and Mr.Guillermo Rodríguez (Director – Casa de la India). Pune Film Foundation were represented by Dr. Mohan Agashe (Trustee), Mr. Ravi Gupta (Secretary) and Mr. Santosh Unecha (Jt. Secretary). Mr. Prashant Pathrabe (Director NFAI) was also present.
The Spanish Delegates were introduced to the audience and felicitated. Mr. Ravi Gupta made the welcome speech and Mr. Guillermo Rodríguez gave a brief insight of the role of Casa de la India and Instituto Cervantes in bringing about a cultural exchange and promotion between the two countries. Mr. Prashant Pathrabe informed about the role that NFAI plays in preserving films and also suggested storing Spanish Films at the Archive so that the tedium of transporting them from Spain is eliminated. Mr. Samar Nakhate delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Delegation then left to interact with the Press outside.
The NFAI auditorium was choc-o-bloc full to its 350 capacity on 2nd April 2011 for the Opening Film “El Secreto De Sus Ojos” which met with thunderous applause. In spite of apprehensions voiced about attendance of audience due to World Cup Cricket Final Match between India and Sri Lanka all the following three films, Hierro, Los Abrazos Rotos and Garbo: El Espía witnessed a full house and were very well received. This indeed speaks volumes of the love for good cinema amongst ‘Pune’ites.
Five films were screened on 3rd April 2011. It being a Sunday, the first film Tres Días con La Familia began with a considerable crowd which swelled to a spilling capacity for Nacidas Para Sufrir, Yo También, Celda 211 and Ágora. Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP and Chairman PIFF attended the screening of Yo También. The NFAI auditorium has a rather revered status since it is the only auditorium where footwear has to be removed before entering. Everything which can create a sound….. Mobile phones, whispering, talking or eatables ….. is strictly prohibited. Hence the audience gets the undisturbed pleasure of watching and assimilating only the Film. An interaction with the audience gave us the feedback that the people were rather moved by the films and expressed hope that this would be an annual event.
